Denise Graham-Record is a Canadian Psychotherapist and Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years experience. Denise started her career as an Early Childhood Educator and Zero-to Six Practitioner in Canada. Her passion for children and families led her to study Social Work followed by 7 years as a Child Protection Investigator with extensive experience in trauma assessment and child safeguarding. Most recently Denise has directed her career training and education towards clinical practice. Prior to joining The Wellness Centre Denise worked as a psychotherapist and mobile crisis clinician in Florida at both in-patient and out-patient treatment settings. Her primary duties included delivery of therapeutic intervention with children, adolescents and adult clients with a wide range of behavioural health, severe and pervasive mental illness and neurodevelopmental disorders. Denise considers herself a global citizen who’s professional career has spanned across Canada, USA, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Denise holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Ryerson University (Canada) and a Master Degree in Social Work from York University (Canada) along with an Early Childhood Diploma from Humber College (Canada). Denise is a certified Social Worker (ACSW) and an active National Association of Social Workers (NASW) member. She is a registered Clinician Social Worker in the state of Florida. Denise is licensed with the Cayman Islands Health Practice Council for Professionals Allied with Medicine (CPAM).
Denise incorporates various therapeutic modalities into her clinical practice including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (IM), Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) and TheraPlay. She approaches each client with compassion and strives to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship within which she supports clients to heal, explore, learn and thrive.
She enjoys working and has worked most recently in the treatment of mood disorders, PTSD, and severe and pervasive mental illness. She has extensive experience in trauma informed care, divorce and separation, community development, advocacy and behavior management. Denise is a passionate supporter of parents, working previously with foster and adoptive parents. She has extensive experience with early childhood consultation and is a Certified Triple P Parenting Facilitator (Level 4 Group).
Denise has strong Caymanian family roots and lived in Grand Cayman as an adolescent. She brings a wealth of experience to her role at The Wellness Centre and approaches her clinical practice with strong cross-cultural awareness, a deep anchoring in trauma informed care and an appreciation for multi-disciplinary collaboration and consultation. Denise looks forward to being back in the Cayman Islands and working alongside many of her previous colleagues.
