Emily is a born and raised Caymanian and only the second Caymanian to earn the designation of Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. They earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from an American university in 2016. Emily’s love of applied behaviour analysis was discovered in one of their college courses. Post-graduation, Emily achieved Registered Behaviour Technician certification, which allowed them to provide behavioural therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disorders. After one year of gaining experience, they then went to Pennsylvania, USA, to obtain their Master of Science in Applied Behaviour Analysis from Drexel University whilst working at the AJ Drexel Autism Institute. This allowed Emily to work in schools, clinics, participate in research, and provide training to other professionals in various settings, including Philadelphia International Airport. Emily then moved to the UK and interned as a behaviour therapist at one of the first ABA clinics in London and provided behavioural therapy to children ages 2-7. Emily returned to The Wellness Centre in 2019, where they worked as a Senior Behaviour Technician before being promoted to the Child Services Team Lead in Spring 2021. In this current role, Emily provides therapist supervision and programme management.

What you love most about the work you do?

I love that I am able to help children learn how to communicate. People with ASD (or related disorders) are often misunderstood and labelled because others struggle to understand why they do certain things. My goal is to help them find a way to express their wants and needs whilst remaining happy and safe.
