Yanique Matthews

The Wellness Centre is pleased to welcome Yanique Matthews to our team. 

Yanique specializes in early prevention-intervention and neurodevelopmental disabilities. She is a Developmental & Educational Psychologist (MA/Ed.S.) who is certified by the National Association of School Psychologists (NCSP) in the United States, and licensed with the Cayman Islands Health Practice Council for Professionals Allied with Medicine (CPAM). Yanique earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (clinical emphasis; Cum Laude Honors) from Smith College, and her graduate degrees in School Psychology at the University of South Florida, Tampa (school-based mental health cognate). She is a Junior Phi Beta Kappa, Psi Chi, and Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Alumna. 

Yanique has international experience having worked in a variety of multidisciplinary settings in the US (Florida, Georgia, Tennessee), Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. She has more than 15 years’ experience with comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and interventions, garnered from K-12 schools, Assessment Centres, Family Centres, Children’s Hospitals, the Marcus Autism Center, the UTHSC Center on Developmental Disabilities, and outpatient-hospital clinics. 

Her therapeutic expertise includes child individual-and-group counseling, and parent-child interventions. Yanique maintains credentialing as a Certified Therapist for Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT): an evidence-based approach for addressing disruptive behaviors in young children. She also is a Certified Trainer of ‘Helping Our Toddlers, Developing Our Children’s Skills’ (a research-based, parenting-skills group program that emphasizes positive behaviour principles). Yanique recently became a Certified Facilitator for Triple P (Level 4 Standard), and also successfully completed the Theraplay Level One course.

Yanique was trained in trauma-informed practices via the highly selective, 1-year Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders (LEND) Fellowship. LEND is an interdisciplinary training program that emphasizes high clinical competence and innovative practice to improve the health of infants, children and adolescents with disabilities and special healthcare needs. 

Her research experience includes quantitative and qualitative methodologies to examine child & adolescent mental health; school climate; behavioural parent training; and autism assessment & service provision. 

Yanique is passionate about healthy childhoods, empowering caregivers, education and mental wellbeing.
